Heroes In The Struggle, includes a photographic tribute to African Americans who have made outstanding contributions to the fight against HIV/AIDS, was launched on World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, 2001. Since it’s debut, the Heroes In The Struggle exhibit has traveled around the country, raising awareness, challenging individuals and institutions to get involved in their communities, and generating critical conversation about HIV testing and treatment. The Black AIDS Institute will also be sending the 2006 traveling exhibit of Heroes around the country and will host events during its presentation. Sponsorships, including cash and in-kind, talent and silent auction items are being sought for this red carpet event, which attracts over 1,000 people, including celebrities, elected officials, and the community. Volunteers opportunities are also available. Volunteers will meet at 7 p.m. each Wednesday leading up to the event.
